That worked for me.
Yes and yes. No change. Includes reboots in between. What I don't know is whether there is another package outside of the "regular" cupsys ones which may be leaving traces of something about, messing up the purge. Basically, I hit all the cups\* listed as installed. It is also weird that CUPS identifies my usb printer (the Epson) with /dev/lp0, which is a parallel port. I'm wondering whether there is some problem with udev or the like. There is no /dev/usb directory, unlike the information below suggests. Is this because of the existence of the /udev/.static directory??? Again, my system sees the printers properly (via hwinfo): ========== ----- parallel info ----- /proc/sys/dev/parport/parport0/base-addr 888 1912 /proc/sys/dev/parport/parport0/autoprobe CLASS:PRINTER; MODEL:HP LaserJet 1200; MANUFACTURER:Hewlett-Packard; DESCRIPTION:Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 1200; COMMAND SET:PJL,MLC,PCL,PCLXL,POSTSCRIPT; ----- parallel info end ----- 40: Parallel 00.0: 10900 Printer [Created at parallel.154] Unique ID: ffnC.+mImpC1PXY5 Parent ID: YMnp.ecK7NLYWZ5D Hardware Class: printer Model: "Hewlett-Packard HP LaserJet 1200" Vendor: "Hewlett-Packard" Device: "HP LaserJet 1200" Device File: /dev/lp0 Config Status: cfg=new, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Attached to: #8 (Parallel controller) 64: USB 00.1: 10900 Printer [Created at usb.124] Unique ID: xnLL.wHjGvTVSII4 Parent ID: k4bc.UyPasJNOYrE SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:10.4/usb1/1-4/1-4:1.1 SysFS BusID: 1-4:1.1 Hardware Class: printer Model: "Epson USB2.0 MFP(Hi-Speed)" Hotplug: USB Vendor: usb 0x04b8 "Epson" Device: usb 0x0803 "USB2.0 MFP(Hi-Speed)" Revision: "1.00" Serial ID: "M16P20407291006080" Device File: /dev/usb/lp0 Device Number: char 180:0 Speed: 480 Mbps Module Alias: "usb:v04B8p0803d0100dc00dsc00dp00ic07isc01ip02" Config Status: cfg=new, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Attached to: #62 (Hub) ========== -- In a completely rational society, the best of us would aspire to be _teachers_ and the rest of us would have to settle for something less, because passing civilization along from one generation to the next ought to be the highest honor and the highest responsibility anyone could have. - Lee Iacocca -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
