There is a .deb package. Has a nice convenience (should be an option
postinstall, however): the installation will somehow set it that apt-get
update will list any upgrades so one need not keep visiting their very
volatile snapshot to get upgraded .debs.

Not such a nice convenience. I don't like s/w that downloads *anything* without my knowledge or permission.
