Maybe we should poll the community. I, for one, would vote to drop MySQL and stick with MariaDB. Currently, I have servers using either, some with MySQL and some with MariaDB. Switching over was a piece of cake. Purportedly MariaDB brings performance improvements, but they're not huge. But the fact that Mr. Widenius wishes MySQL would go away, and Oracle's grimy grip on MySQL is enough to motivate me.
