Perhaps you have to add
d-i debconf/priority string {low,medium,high}

to
tasksel tasksel/first multiselect standard, desktop
tasksel tasksel/first seen false

Hopefully "priority=critical" on the kernel cmdline won't be
superceded by "d-i debconf/priority string ...".
