You complained of tiring text on the console. Have you tried making the text font bigger, rather than playing with the resolution? Try installing the package console-setup-linux and then type $ setfont Lat15-Terminus32x16 See if this is big enough. Then pick a suitable font from /usr/share/consolefonts/ stripping the .psf.gz from filenames in that directory like Lat15-TerminusBold32x16.psf.gz > any help and/or pointers in the right direction would be most > welcome.
