Perhaps because wpasupplicant, accoring to wikipedia, supports Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, QNX, AROS, Microsoft Windows, Solaris, OS/2 (including ArcaOS and eComStation) and Haiku. […] it also implements WPA and older wireless LAN security protocols. OTOH iwd supports Linux.
