The only known legal method for doing this involves two teams. Team one studies Mac OS and produces extensively detailed documentation on every interface; what goes in, and what it produces, and what the side effects are. They pass on the documentation to: Team two produces an implementation of the documentation. Nobody on team one ever gets to be a part of team two. -dsr-
