Okay John,
first tell me if I should start a new thread for this different direction.
What, at the most basic is the hardware specification I would require for Debian custom or stable?
Here is why I ask.
Behind me in my music / production studio is a computer. It currently has a very old install of Linux. It is part of how I firmly know I cannot use Linux adaptive technology resources, the digital speech is a nonstarter for me physically.
It is hmm perhaps a Pentium 2, might be a three.
Additionally, I have a second box, it was my main DOS machine before a crash, that I am certain is a p3. If the Linux unit need not provide more than say a glorified server to provide the shell infrastructure, what is my baseline? Most of my shell experience is with Ubuntu,, but I know this unit likely has Debian on it instead.

Thoughts?

That would work. Once installed Linux can be administered entirely by
ssh. Your Linux box can sit in the corner with no monitor or keyboard
attached.
