Hi Dan,

I run DOS on my computers. In fact the Box I am having built will, if
freedos manages multiprocessing, which I feel sure it does, be
configured so I can manage Linux resources as I do currently.

Currently I ssh, from DOS, into various Linux focused shell services.
If successful I will ssh into a Linux shell, but on a different drive
of my own machine, local as you state here.
Certainly I will have a sound card. But there will not be a stand
alone Linux machine, but a Linux shell install on one hard drive in
this new computer.
Does that make sense?
VLC or mplayer seem most likely, there is even a port of Mplayer for DOS.
Kind regards,

Hello Kare,
I've not been following this thread closely so I may be off base here.
You said in the above that "If successful I will ssh into a Linux shell,

This sounds like you're expecting to access Linux running on the same
machine that your Freedos system is running on.
If my understanding is correct, what you are thinking will not work.
You can run either Linux or Freedos on the hardware. Though Freedos may
support multitasking, it appears to do so with add-on software, not
natively. And running a virtual machine under Freedos to then run Linux
does not appear to be possible either.
So you will need to have a dedicated system that boots your Linux
environment, which you can then ssh to from your Freedos system. The
Freedos system could be running in a virtual machine under Linux or a
separate hardware system.
I hope this makes sense and is useful for you.
