Debian is definitely a technical project with strong social and political aspects. But I believe that DPL is a social and political position. If a DPL decides to drive the technical aspects of Debian based on their personal beliefs, it will be against our do-o-cracy culture. Will it be good as a DPL if I say Debian "should" or "should not" comply to "age verification requirement" without any discussion? I plan to stand by the decisions the project takes.
From whatever I have observed in recent DPL tenures, there were no strong technical driving force, rather facilitating solving technical issues. I also plan to do similarly during my tenure. For example, I am a strong supporter of team maintained packages, but that does not mean I would/should force everyone to quit single maintainer practice. I would start more conversations around this instead and try to find a solution.
So, I urge everyone to bring to notice the issues that they think are important for the project so that we can discuss and find some solution.
