Is 1.77 beta stable (for a beta)?
It should be stable. There are a number of minor issues that have been reported and fixed in the latest interim release, but most of the issues were probably in versions before 1.77 as well. I'm not aware of any serious issues with 1.77.
I remember seeing something about some log file issues.
I believe that was about the log file change, which was intentional (although I believe it was in the latest interim release). At LOGLEVEL LOW, you'll now find the log files much smaller, with one line summarizing the tests that failed, rather than one line for each test that failed.
