Thanks for the suggestion. I was looking around and found what I think is exactly what I was looking for. It is called Super Explorer http://www.galcott.com/se.htm. It looks almost identical to Windows Explorer, but one of it's options is to open a preview pane. As you select a document, it shows the contents in the preview pane.
