Hi all,

Regarding the profile of IB, I guess there is an expectation that it should be up there
with the big names such as Oracle, Informix, Sybase, and MSSQL etc.

The truth is these products need profile to get used, and hence have very large
marketing budgets to maintain their profile against their perceived competition.

IB on the other hand appears to be chosen for purely technical reasons, and while it
has to do battle with the IT Manager mindset, where decisions are made on the basis
of what they read in journals etc, it is still making its presence felt in marketplace
where it counts - ie on machines. As an embedded database, IB is often installed in
such a way that the client does not know that they have a RMDBS installed. One of
its advantages is that the customer need never know. While this "stealth" capability is
an advantage for suppliers ( low maintenance overhead - no DBA required ), is means
that there is no need to hype it to the customer.

Also, do not forget that what appears in journal reviews IS based on their advertising
budgets with those magazines - this is the real world you know!
