>From my POV, there is nothing compelling about upgrading to Vista.

So the question to my mind, is not "why not", but "why"?

All the applications I currently want to run, run very happily on XP, so
why should I consider spending more money on newer hardware, when the OS
is probably going to suck most of that extra processing power anyway.

>From all I've seen, it's mostly eye candy, and eye candy doesn't work
for me; for example, I run XP with a classic theme for a start. Okay,
so it may be more secure than XP, but I'm careful what I download/open,
I run a firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware sweeps, and I've never had
a security problem with XP, so I don't see the need from that point of
view.

I'm sure I'll update my view at some stage, maybe when I come to change
my PC, or start wanting software (e.g. Photoshop CS3) which only runs on
Vista, but right now, there is nothing compelling about upgrading to
Vista.

YMMV.

May I ask why not?

I'd have to agree with you on that one. ;-)

... given there is simply no reason to move to Vista whatsoever).
