Compiling in JACK support adds a new MIDI backend, yet it is only used
if you select it as MIDI backend in the settings dialog under the MIDI
tab. The default backend is still PortMidi even if JACK support is
compiled in.
I also had the strange effect that MIDI input did not work at first
after updating my distribution and recompiling Denemo, however, when
trying again the next day it worked. I'm not sure why. Maybe the device
was already in use by another process. That happened to me with audio
output. Thus, it is worth to retry under Linux and check that the device
is not in direct use by some other process (i.e. not via the sound server).

MIDI input works on Windows, version 2.2.0, "out of the box"
Including chord entry (which is my main concern at the moment) -- pressing Alt
and the MIDI keyboard key adds a chord note at the cursor.
(The windows version has its unrelated quirks -- for example: won't let me close the
Print View (!?!) - can't x out of it, nor find where to disable it in preferences.
Another: I check-mark "Display Controls for Playback" in preferences, and
nothing happens, the controls don't appear)

A follow-up to my previous message (sorry about the segmentation)
I recompiled the same snapshot withOUT jack.
Does not appear to fix the MIDI input.
The error message still occurs upon [Input] -> [Midi input]
("No MIDI in device was found...")
Prior to that selection AND after it, nothing happens when I press the MIDI
keyboard (while cursored into a staff to edit notes)
Is it worth compiling the newest snapshot? I will seek to try it on MS windows
as well, will report result.

Running denemo 2.6.39 on Ubuntu
Ubuntu have distributed broken versions of Denemo in the past.
I compiled it from a git pull.
With jack enabled ( " ./configure --enable-jack " )
Could that be the culprit? I don't have jack running when using this denemo
setup.
I don't see anything in the explicit user setting controls that mentions jack
(if jack controls exists I am missing them)
I have my midi input plugged in. It is showing up in
Edit -> Change Preferences -> Midi [tab] -> Input device
(selected my input device)
Denemo lists it by name.
However, when I switch to (from the top menu):
Input -> Midi Input
(it should be already selected if there was a MIDI device connected at
startup)
No. It some more generalized default device was selected.
However, when I selected my keyboard, that preference started persisting across
close/open . It was added to the denemorc file
No MIDI in device was found on startup- re-start Denemo with the
device plugged in, select the device in the MIDI tab of the
preferences dialog and re-start Denemo again.
I do all the above, multiple times. Doesn't help.
Stuck in the same loop.
(again: my MIDI device is listed among the input device options, in
preferences.
if you look in the file denemorc in the directory ~/.denemo-2.6.39 do
you see a line like:
<portmidi_input_device>ALSA: USB Keystation 49e MIDI
1</portmidi_input_device>
Yes... I see my recently selected input device in that xml node.
This should contain your device name.
What happens when you press notes on the MIDI keyboard?
