Well, the icons proposed are all about paying homage to hand engraving. Denemo's contribution is enabling people to enter music easily, which is not something at all easy to depict I guess. For me the large D triggers recognition that the icon is for Denemo which makes it a pragmatic choice. But then, I don't really do visual aesthetics :), LilyPond for me is a winner because the music is easier to sight read - poorly typeset music triggers errors when playing such as halving time (e.g. playing 1/16th notes for 1/8th notes) when the spacing suddenly changes or playing a third lower when the ledger lines are not properly separated.
