Don't be sorry Phil, I appreciate you responding :)

Ok, I've done all you request.

The host got re-added, eventually.  It was detected straight away, but
not added... and was added later.  Interestingly, it was NOT added to
/etc/hosts.deny (or hosts.evil in my config).

Will mail you all that you request shortly.
