Yeah there's no standard saying it should be treated as fullscreen in
that case, just some window managers will treat a window the size of the
screen as fullscreen. Although they then create an inconsistency for
themselves as soon as you resize a window slightly larger than the
screen. Still, that's a good hack for Gamescope if playing games is the
main concern.

Does the game not offer a plain "Fullscreen" option?
