Hi,

Sorry about the long delay. Here's an update about the effort that
I posted about here[1].

We reviewed a lot of packages that we would like to include and
sorted them into categories:

 - Core: no equivalent functionality exists in OpenSolaris and
         the quality is reasonable
 - Stable: there is equivalent functionality, but some people
prefer this package and the quality is reasonable
 - Encumbered: packages in this category would be nice to have
but legal issues currently prevent Sun from distributing
them. (The spec files may be available and you are
welcome to build and install them if that is legal where
you are or if you have the necessary licenses, etc...)
 - Experimental: everything else

First we would like to concentrate on Core, then Stable and finally
Experimental packages. Attached is the list of Core and Stable
packages. A "+" means we have a spec file in SFE, "-" is obviously
if we don't. The names after the packages are the people who
worked on the spec files (many thanks to them). I'm hoping that
most of these people will be interested in becoming package
Maintainers. (Of course others are welcome to get involved!)
Each package will also have a Sponsor, who is a Sun employee.
I'm writing a document about the responsibilities
of the Maintainer(s) and the Sponsor, but it's basically this:

Maintainer:
The maintainer is ideally a person who regularly uses the package
 and knows it well. Responsibilities:
 - keeps the package up-to-date
 - monitors bugs in defect.opensolaris.org
 - interfaces with the upstream community
(submit bugs upstream, stays informed about coming changes, etc.)

Sponsor:
 - legal review
 - export control
 - ARC review
 - other internal paperwork

The immediate tasks for Maintainers are:
 - check if the spec file in SFE is the most recent version
 - check that it builds on snv_<recent>
 - check that it installs cleanly
 - check that it runs and basic functionality works

If your name is on the list, or if it's not, but you would like to
be the Maintainer of a package, please reply to me (not the list!)
and let me know which one or which ones.

Additional packages may be proposed later, but chances are they
are already in the experimental list or some other team within
Sun is already working on them.

Thanks,
Laca
