Ghee, Sun Solaris[tm] 11 snv_70b X86. SUNWstaroffice-base 8.0.0,REV=106.2005.05.26
I created the queue via CUPS/Foomatic originally with Sun JDS (Linux) + CUPS and then migrated to Sun Solaris[tm] 11 snv_37 X86 + SFWcups 1.1.21,REV=2005.01.05.17.04 + Foomatic + Gutenprint and then to snv_55b... CUPS has both a frontend (web interface + filetype determination + filters) and a backend (ps to printer drivers). CUPS frontend trusts nothing and sends all postscript input thru a pstops filter....intending to fix non-standard postscript files, but actually corrupting valid postscript files... Attempts to print the historical "tiger.ps" found on all Solaris releases in recorded times gets corrupted by CUPS frontend... CUPS backend includes Epson printer driver, required by Gutenprint to print to Epson printers.... SO, my system prints utilizing the following programs: (lp -> foomatic -> gutenprint -> CUPS epson driver -> printer.) Ugly, but it works. Where as the CUPS solution: (IPP -> CUPS web -> CUPS pstops -> gutenprint -> CUPS epson driver -> printer.) Questionably cleaner, but does not work. Now, where does this hit StarOffice? StarOffice checks for the libcups.so utilized by gutenprint and assumes (incorrectly) that the CUPS web and filters are setup. I have just discovered that Firefox and Thunderbird have a field to determine IF cups should be utilized: print.postscript.cups.enabled If this setting is false, then all is well and the program utilize the specified command "/usr/bin/lp -c -s -d MY_PRINTER" to print... easy, easy. Is there such a setting for StarOffice/OpenOffice? (See http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205050) Thanks for your help, Joel.
