Roundabout way would be to go in 'Failsafe terminal' session as root and 
disable gdm temporarily ( 'svcadm disable -t gdm') which will drop you 
into console and then doing 'svcadm enable gdm' once you are done.

Take a look at the vconsole project [ 
http://opensolaris.org/os/project/vconsole ]. I've successfully used the 
Xorg binary, from inside the tarball in the downloads section on that 
page, with Osol2008.11 to get consoles with Ctrl-Alt-F1,F2...
