Try connecting to your protected WLan using dladm :

Create a secure object,

#dladm create-secobj -c [wep|wpa] wlanKey

This command prompts for WLan password, type in the pwd.

Connect to the wifi network using this sec-obj,

#dladm connect-wifi -e <essid> -k wlanKey

This way the secure object is stored and nwam will automatically pick up
this secure object and connect to the protected WLan without prompting
for password.
