Well, after see lot of people like me trying to put your XVR-600 /XVR-1200 on SPARC64 platform with an open-source OS, I would like to share my experience and a light of hope. I have a Sun Blade 100 2Gb and XVR-600 working on Sol10 (yes! in a Blade-100 XVR-600 work nice, not a Blade-150 as minimum on Sun docs).
After that I decide upgrade this machine to Open-source world... First with opensolaris but currently the installation mode for SPARC not allow a LiveCD, only Jumpstart like. Ok... but stop! XVR-600 unsupported ... console-mode only today is some sad. Ok, try other flavor: Debian for SPARC. Better, sunxvr500 console driver recognize as framebuffer graphic card XVR-500 (because card ID are equal) and start in this mode showing Linux logo at color, 1280x1024 console... fine!. But.. Xorg can't run because no driver available to use... :( Ok... last chance OpenBSD 4.5 for SPARC64 (release date 1May 2009), on release notes say: # ifb(4), a driver for Sun Expert3D, Expert3D-Lite, XVR-500, XVR-600 and XVR-1200 framebuffers (accelerated). # wildcatfb(4), an X driver for Sun Expert3D, Expert3D-Lite, XVR-500, XVR-600 and XVR-1200 framebuffers (unaccelerated). Wow, unbelievable! I need install to see this! But release is not available (today April,7 2009). Don't worry...install OpenBSD 4.4 for Sparc, then checkout OpenBSD Kernel 4.5 to build, and finally checkout X driver for wildcat (http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/cvsweb/xenocara/driver/xf86-video-wildcatfb/). Conclusion: OpenBSD 4.5 and XVR-600 work nice!! Finally I have a Xorg running on my Sun Blade 100 and XVR-600... and this isn't Sun/3Dlabs proprietary :) Today the OpenBSD community has a new collaborator and fan that will buy the OpenBSD 4.5 CD: me. I think that the community of developers for OpenSolaris, and Linux can see this OpenBSD code as example to support this hardware. Regards, MrSparc. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
