I wholeheartedly agree with that. So far, there are a few things that really
would be nice to have in OS2008.11 (especially some up-to-date XFCE 4.4(.3?)
available through the "stock" IPS repositories), and I'd rather wait some
more weeks for that than having an "on-time" release just for the sake of
it. :) Anway, there are a few things I couldn't help noticing so far:

- So far I am working half the time using Ubuntu 8.04 and the other half
using OS 2008.11 pre-release and I use an USB hard drive to transfer things
from Linux to OpenSolaris (vice versa doesn't work so far as I yet have to
find a file system to support large files _and_ be writable from both
systems - ext3 so far isn't ...). Asides this, in this setup the whole
system almost seems to come to a halt when rsync'ing off the ext3 USB drive
to somewhere in my ZFS file system. This is not that good...

- I work on a docking station having an external 19" TFT @1280x1024 being my
primary, my notebooks LVDS @ 1280x800 my secondary display (the latter one
mainly used for displaying log files of production systems...). Using an
intel 945GM display chipset, this is rather pleasant in dual-screen mode on
Ubuntu hardy and (especially having Firefox, Thunderbird and friends opened)
next to unusable in OpenSolaris so far - switching between virtual desktops
in this setup is fluent on Linux and pretty stuttering on OpenSolaris right
now. Is there something to be done (in terms of configuration) about this?

- Overally, as a non-system-programmer: Is there any way contributing help
to the OpenSolaris desktop project? I think it's a good thing despite the
few current shortcomings(?)...

Cheers & all the best,
Kristian
