Setting aside the question of how interested Apple would be in such a  
venture, it would seem to me to be a far better idea to wrap a GNOME- 
friendly browser around WebKit, rather than port something to the  
GNOME desktop that follows Apple's UI guidelines.

Such a browser already exists, and it's called Epiphany:

It hasn't made it into pkg.opensolaris.org as yet, but blastwave seems  
to have it.
