Sounds good generally, and I don't think too many would want to step
in your way. What would help me to understand this proposal more is
what things are you explicitly looking for? Is this just a call to
action for interested parties, or do you need specific infrastructure
to be able to continue your work?

If, for example, you just need webspace, maybe something on

http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/desktop/communities/

is appropriate? Do you need a mailing list? source code repository?
Where do you intend doing much of your work - I assume a lot of it
will happen upstream, but perhaps binary creation through something
like SFE? SFW? OpenSolaris 2008.05?

Let me know how I can help further - if you really think an official
project is needed, then let's shoot for that and get one created.
