I hate getting into discussions about dtterm and xterm type things because
both of us are probably set in our ways. I also live with green on black in
very old fashioned DEC VT terminal fashion. I have been known to do some
crazy sort of experiments, late at night when no one is looking, and I
found that I can also use the new "amber" color as my foreground. This was
just great and next I played a bit and discovered that one may select
a given font into the mix too. This caused me to loosen my tie and I
even discarded my pocket protector and handy slide rule.

At that point .. some really crazy stuff began to happen.

I wrote a pile of scripts called .xterm_foo.sh and put them all into a
directory named .xterm in my home directory. Look here :

$ ls -lap .xterm
total 28

Let's look at that old one there from my Sun Ultra 10 days ( with the
Creator 3D Series III OpenGL framebuffer ! ) :

$ cat .xterm/.xterm.sh
#!/sbin/sh
/usr/openwin/bin/xterm +ah -b 4 -cr yellow -j -ls -ms white +mb -rw -aw -s
-sb +si -sk -sl 2048 +t -tn vt100 -vb -wf -T xterm -bw 4 -bg black -bd red
-fg green &

See there ? I can select the number of scroll back lines and the border
color and the foreground is green. Pretty slick eh ?

A few years later I tried large white chars :

$ cat .xterm/.xterm_w.sh
#!/sbin/sh
/usr/openwin/bin/xterm +ah -b 4 -cr yellow -j -ls -ms white +mb -rw -aw -s
-sb +si -sk -sl 2048 +t -tn vt100 -vb -wf -T xterm -bw 4 -bg black -bd red
-fg white -fn 10x20 &

And then later in life .. yellow :

$ cat .xterm/.xterm_y.sh
#!/sbin/sh
/usr/openwin/bin/xterm +ah -b 4 -cr green -j -ls -ms white +mb -rw -aw -s
-sb +si -sk -sl 2048 +t -tn vt100 -vb -wf -T xterm -bw 4 -bg black -bd red
-fg yellow &

see http://www.blastwave.org/dclarke/blog/images/KDE_on_Solaris_8.jpg

As you certainly know, you may run /usr/openwin/bin/xlsfonts to see a nice
long list of character font options one may use.

$ cat .xterm/.xterm_lg_y.sh
#!/sbin/sh
/usr/openwin/bin/xterm +ah -b 4 -cr white -j -ls +mb -ms yellow -rw -aw -s
+si +sk -sl 16384 -tn xterm -vb -w 4 -bd red -fg yellow -bg black -sb -fn
-adobe-courier-medium-r-normal--25-180-100-100-m-150-iso8859-1 &

These sort of things probably work with dtterm but I really like to just
stick with xterm because it can be lightweight over a tunneled ssh session
or even just with xauth allowing remote display.

So you are using green on black still eh?

Dennis

ps: I still have a DEV VT220 on my desk. Is that okay ?
