Sure:

- Mainly, to get people talking about it. That worked :)

- I've seen a couple of comments recently from people who wanted a
shortcut to their home folder on their desktop. If we're going to have
one useful icon, why not two or three?

- I've also seen comments that having no icons at all gave some people a
bit of a "what now?" feeling. Our initial login experience, whatever
that turns out to be, will help them over that the first time. But that
doesn't necessarily mean we want to leave them completely in the
wilderness their second login.

- As Frank mentioned to in another post, it's generally easier to delete
things you don't want, than to figure out how to add the things that you
do want. (Although, as it turns out, it's equally hard to delete desktop
icons as to add them... I'm about to file a bug about that, if there
isn't one already!)

Do I believe we should have all four of these icons on the desktop?
Probably not-- depends whether we want to go with the Apps/Places/System
menu or a Launch menu (the desktop icons would be more useful in the
latter case, I think), and whether we want to expose the Documents
folder as much as we did in JDS, or assume that Indiana users are more
likely to live in their Home folder.
