GNOME has been using this package naming convention since Solaris 8.
(note SUNWgnome-base-libs, SUNWgnome-base-libs-devel,
SUNWgnome-base-libs-root)
We were the 1st team that stepped beyond the 9-character package
name limit (and thus the first to discover the bugs ;)
