You're going to want to be careful here.

The version of gdm delivered in the current version of Gnome (2.24) is 
themeable in very flexible ways.

The version of gdm delivered in the soon-to-come-to-OpenSolaris version 
of Gnome (2.26) is a complete rewrite, and is not themeable in many 
aspects that the current version supports (although what you're asking 
is simple and perhaps still possible). The schedule I have shows Gnome 
2.26 integrated to Nevada in build 115.

We'd love to see the new version extended along the lines of the current 
one in regard to theming. Any volunteers? :)
