I don't know, because I wasn't involved with the conversation to add the Back to School icons... the contents of the desktop background are largely marketing's domain, and AFAIK, both the Back to School icons and the current proposal for 2008.11 came from them. (I think Frank's a bit closer to what's going on there, though, so perhaps he can comment?)
