Traditionally Solaris has produced accurate sized type based on display resolution. You could measure the size of the type on the screen (points are a physical measurement unit, although there are several slightly different ones) and it would be quite correct. Has this changed? Windows only uses the specified size as a hint, depending on the icon size selected. Based on standard units, 8 point would be quite small, 10 point would be small, 12 point is medium, and 14 point is large. 16 point is for blind people. As a point of reference, the commonly used Postscript point size is 1/72 inch/point. Measure the size of the type in your browser and see if it meets any standard.
