Thats basically what I'm saying, although I never used Linux and had no idea it did anything like that. It would be a nice way to clone a system, as far as just re-installing the OS and all apps from the internet plus various install and later customizations. Basically as you say, just click the button and the file is created, then when you install, the install reads the file and performs all custom tasks.
