(Results of more searching) Maybe this is a PATH problem?
 whereis gcc
gcc: /usr/bin/gcc /usr/lib/gcc /usr/libexec/gcc
/usr/share/man/man1/gcc.1.gz
 echo $PATH
/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin

When I try to do export PATH=$PATH:/usr/lib:/usr/libexec I get back
export command not found. Yes, I'm doing that as root. I'll have to
start up again tommorow(tired). Thanks in advance for any ideas.
