I think in general "freedom" is more valued. Choice is in a sense
secondary to that (freedom to chose). From an business/engineering point
of view the biggest asset of Linux IMHO is the freedom to use/modify it
in a way that meets my business/engineering needs (freedom to pursue my
own destiny). For many less-technical end-users that is not a direct
option, but the secondary benefit to these users is that as a result of
many others pursuing their own destiny, they get more options to chose
from, with a higher chance to find a Linux based solution that fits
their needs.

So I think the key message should be about freedom, but choice can hook
into that.

Something like:

Linux: Pursue happiness.
Whatever your dream is, there is a Linux for you.

With lots of options for pictures of happy, smiling people :-) who
explain why the particular version of Linux that they use makes them
happy because it is a perfect fit for their needs. Different people ->
different needs.

Cheers,
Waldo

So "most people, you would guess, do really want freedom and community"?
More so than choice?

Hmmm...

I'd *like* to live in a world like that. But instead, I live in a sub-
world like that, where most do indeed appreciate those values. But the
world outside our communities (note the plural) looks different to me.
