LOCKSCREEN
- Doesn't provide a way to dismiss notifications without unlocking and
visiting the utility tray.
- Can't open the utility tray from the lock-screen.
UTILITY TRAY
- Several of the quick setting are largely useless. 'Airplane mode',
'Data' and 'Bluetooth' aren't things that I need to toggle regularly.
I'd prefer 'Torch', 'Internet Sharing' or even better, a way to
customize what goes here :)
STATUS BAR
- This is arguable the most prime real-estate on the device as it's
always in view. Right now it's cluttered and full of icons I don't
really care about:
- Debug mode
- NFC
- Annoying flickering/distracting data icon
For utility tray and status bar: ok, but as a general note, let's not
forget we're targeting different countries with very different data
usage profile. 'data' is very very often toggle off/on in countries
where there isn't any affordable unlimited data plan as we have. I also
use it to save battery when I know I won't be able to plug it for a long
time.
As for airplane mode, I heavily use it as a way of not getting disturbed
during the night for instance, without switching off my phone. And I do
like the data indicator, because the little "E" or "3G" do not mean I'm
getting packets in or out my phone, unfortunately. I rely on this
indicator to either try later, or switch airplane off and on to register
again to the network, or hit the refresh button (these might be fxos
bugs or maybe I should try another carrier... still useful to have some
feedback though).
Anyway, my point is:
- let's not remove things before measuring user impact
- +1000 for customizable utility tray (and also icon area in status bar?)
Also, I know that's not 100% related to System app, but I've been
waiting to be able to search contact from the rocketbar since a very
long time.
Thanks for initiating this thread, Sam!

A lot of this stuff could be tucked inside the utility-tray or
somewhere else that's not always in my face :)
TOASTS/NOTIFICATIONS
- We have two forms of 'toast':
1. Slides down from utility tray ('new sms')
2. Pops up from bottom ('app installed')
Perhaps this is intentional, but seems like an area we could simplify.
- FxOS Notifications are bad meta bug:

Thanks for bringing this up!
I have some suggestions regarding some of that! :)
RE: Notifications
Something that has been on my mind for sometime now which I find
very useful in competitive approaches in other OSes; is the
largely-customizable notifications.
Apps can easily opt out of the default notification style and use
other genres: e.g. double (and multiple) action buttons (in case
of social apps where user could perform more than one action
toward an event that is announced through a notification), showing
/more than just text/ in the notification's body (like in
Wallpaper apps when they would show the user two or 3 newly-added
wallpapers), splitting notifications horizontally (specifically in
Twitter app where sometimes you get two or 3 tweets that "you
might have missed" while you're being away).
Expanding notifications is also a neat feature: A notification
with a long text will surely get its end truncated, but a little
tap and swipe down on the notification will expand it to show the
full text/content.
RE: Task manager
A "Close All" button would be very appreciated IMO, Orange did
implement that in the Klif device with FFOS 2.0.
One last thing, not sure if this would really belong to app chrome
or not but it seems to me like something the system would/should
handle: App badges, getting a counter on how many notifications
(emails, SMSes, calls) on an app icon is also IMO a nice feature
to have, I know "there's an addon for that!" but wouldn't be
awesome to have such a thing out of the box? Especially as we aim
to more customizations and flexibility in FFOS.
Thanks!
Ahmed

Subject: system front-end feedback

As we get started on 2.6, it would be good to hear more about how
the UI facilities the system app provides are meeting
requirements. If you have pet peeves, long standing issues, future
thoughts - lets get them captured. I know we have many bugs
already in bugzilla (and we'll try to winnow them down) but some
are old enough its hard to know if they are still relevant. Also
we have ideas being generated by the Alopex initiative. But as
developers writing apps on this platform - and dogfooders - what
do you think needs improving?
Potential topics:
* Lock screen
* Utility tray,
* Toasters and notifications
* Edge swipe
* Task Manager
* App transitions
* Window management
* Status bar
* Dialogs
* App chrome
Does the way the apps/content interact with the system make sense
and meet all your present needs?
thanks,
/Sam
