That is true. I remember diggin' against AOL's nameservers to troubleshoot a customer's problem and they returned data that they should not have returned. If I were a betting man, I'd bet that AOL sucks down the root zones and goes against those roots as authoritative. I think they may have had some problems on reloading their "root" nameservers. Or perhaps they even have a b0rken process that does not update their "local roots" in a timely manner. regards, -joe P.S. the problem I refer to happened at least a year ago, so they may have straightened themselves out since then.
