Everyone take a deep breath - this is not such a big deal and should not
seem so difficult. We're thinking a move to subversion is going to
stop everything at its tracks. That does not have to be the case.

Yes I agree. A 6 month sleep would hold us back. Let's not
put such time restrictions in.

Niclas you go ahead and do what you need to do but make sure you
preserve history while doing so. Meaning don't move around files just
yet but go ahead and remove ones not needed and make changes to those
that need them to work with gump. This way your progress is not halted
and history is preserved. If this restricts your freedom to cleanup the
way you want then you can blame CVS.

Meanwhile we move rapidly to do a move to subversion. Aaron I volunteer
myself to help as much as possible with the conversion. Noel had also asked
if I wanted to assist infrastructure and with the push I have made for
subversion it's my duty to help: not doing so would make me a hypocrite. On
the directory side Jeff Machols is pretty good with Subversion conversion.
I'm CC'ing him to see if he can help us out as well - he had an interest in
helping out with infrastructure at some point in time.

Now we can start transitioning things piece by piece over to svn one CVS
module at a time. All we would need to coordinate is a day or two freezing
work on that module only. You can still work offline on your working copies
and make patches to be used on the svn based working directory when it comes
online so long as you don't move anything around. But I do recommend that
we just take the day to work on something else. We can do this in steps
without making it such a hassle for everyone.

Aaron can you contact infrastructure to see what their process is for
CVS->SVN transitions?

Alex
