Need to get the md5's restored before I can vote on this.

One other thing that I am not sure about is the content of the
maven-metadata.xml file.  It lists only the new release.  I remember
us getting some backlash a year or so ago when we released something
with metadata like that, since it apparently causes some tools to
think the earlier releases are not valid.  This may be an artifact
of the release plugin that I don't understand and it could be no
problem, but a maven expert should verify that this will be OK. 
When I look at repo1, there is a lot of junk there for [discovery]
and it looks like the metadata there may already be borked, so this
may be harmless; but if possible it might be good to fix it.
