The vote was to demonstrate consensus and done based on Sam's input on the
matter.

The vote isn't binding but that doesn't mean it is unnecessary.  It helps
guide the VP and alert members of the group to what's going on.

It also helps put a deadline on debate so that things aren't endlessly
debated.
