Gosh we redid the webpage to do just that. Now you are saying that it is not enough. Pictures and words outline each of the categories. Even the most naive user should be able to navigate the front page.
Having the On-line Help Project where it is, between User Docs and Related Resources, makes it look like it's a place for users to get info, despite the description. That and "Other Project Resources" (in the Related Resources section) are really part of *contributing* (to Docs or to OOo) and should be moved to the Contributing page or to a separate section at the bottom of this page. That would help the first page a lot. "Other Project Resources" probably should have a title more like "Documentation for Developers" to distinguish it from user documentation. I think the section on "How you can help our project" should also go into the "Contributing" part of the page. Put the *user* stuff at the top and the contributor stuff at the bottom. I'm fairly sure that's the way I designed it a year or two ago (whenever it was we redid the page), but some time since then it got changed. Lastly, for completeness, I think we should have a pointer to the [users] list from our front page, near the pointer to the Forums. The Other Languages section is fine where it is. BTW, on the Contributing page, there is a notice at the top which is a wee bit out of date: "[MAINTENANCE NOTICE]June 27, 2006: The site will be unavailable from 21:00 HRS UTC for a period of 1 hour to allow site maintenance." I would make a new front page for everyone's consideration, and correct the Contributing page, but I have been unable to get into CVS from Linux and haven't had the time to try to figure out why and fix it... so downloading the current version and uploading a suggested replacement is a nuisance as I have to reboot into Windows to do it. --Jean --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
