Yeah, that's the actual issue. I cannot set the top and left
properties for the "bubble" div when it is displayed with the
nav wrapper.

Don't know how much additional work you've done since the start of this
thread, but I just looked at the test page for the first time using
FF2.0 on OpenSuse 10.2. The page displayed reliably and predictably
with JS on and off. Nice work.
