Uhhh... So you intend to re-educate the 'masses' in two ways; 1. "NO, NO, NO, Felix is not an OSGi framework, it is a group of OSGi projects... Apache Foo is an OSGi framework..."
2. "NO, NO, NO, Felix bundles works on other things than Felix, I mean the Apache Foo..." Or did I misunderstand something here? That way is just plain stupid, and serves no purpose at all. Either keep Felix what it represents to people (the framework) and rename/move/juggle the other bits, or don't do anything. Yes, you are right that for most non-Java software developers in the world, Apache == web server, and I think this is a general problem... Good Luck with whatever tack you guys choose on this. As for Aries, I would like to see the scope arrive at ASF, and I would hope now is the time to review the organization in this field. +1 for Incubation, btw. I might sign up as Mentor, if I can squeeze in the time... -- Niclas On Sep 2, 2009 1:52 AM, "Richard S. I cannot believe we are truly in a unique situation here: * "Apache" typically means the HTTP Server project, but it also refers to the foundation and all of its independent projects. * "Eclipse" typically means the IDE, but there is also a runtime and foundation with independent projects. Acting like this isn't normal or something that is too confusing to ever resolve seems a bit preposterous. ---- While I don't believe the situation is as confusing as is contended, I have no issue with coming up with a different name for the Apache Felix Framework (its name is technically Framework right now), so that the Apache Felix project can continue to pursue its original charter. -> richard On 9/1/09 12:58, Niclas Hedhman wrote: > > I'm not subscribing to d...@felix.a.o at the moment, but...
