I created a JIRA for slow download (https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMODEVTOOLS-234) , and attached a patch. This also upgrades to 3.3.1, same level the eclipse-plugin uses. Download is faster. The bad news is I'm getting these failures:
