Yes, completely agree on #1.
On #2, can you expand on your reasons? One reason that it could be useful
to allow x-posts is that people can then subscribe to the RSS feed, rather
than having to check the blogs page manually for updates. Traditionally
x-posting is discouraged when a vendor wants to retain the "SEO juice" of
original content, but I don't think that is relevant here.
