Hi, I think both options are possible.
Some projects are using "cross reference" (for instance, https://karaf.apache.org/documentation.html#Articles or https://camel.apache.org/community/articles/), or directly on project website. Personally, I like both, with a preference for the capability to link to "external" blog posts (we can actually do both).
