The problem was that the 'autopoint' tool was not installed on my system. In 
Fedora, that tool is part of the gettext-devel package. rpm-native could be 
successfully built after I installed it. I have updated the wiki page [1] 
accordingly (only for Fedora although there may be other distributions that 
will need this too...)
