I disagree. It wasn't necessary in the early days of Lucene/Solr.
Although, I'll partially agree - the culture has changed such that one often
does now need to be aggressive else those more aggressive will run right over
you. It's sad. It makes me enjoy participating here much less. But it's only
currently "necessary" because the culture has changed to allow it.
