Yes, that could help their brand as well.

That's a very bad move which diminishes one of the long term benefits of
OOo, which is ODF support. ODF has a huge backing already.
Interoperability that you get from ODF is an advantage. Government and
business leaders are promoting open standards, it would be a marketing
advantage to ride on that and promote ODF as well.
Everyone I've spoken to understands the problem of the MS Word formats
being leveraged to force new sales, just most think there's no choice in
the matter. Many, for lack of counter examples, conclude that
formats are bound to a single version of a single brand of a single class
of applications. ODF breaks out of that, allowing new applications and
presumably even new markets.
Let's make sure the customers are helped too and not follow Novell's (most
recent) mistake.
Anyway, back on topic, a custom built 'OpenOffice.org supplied by Dell'
version would probably help both Dell and OOo.
