IEGD provides a pre-OS driver for supporting boot splash screen. 

You should probably take a look at the IEGD driver page on: 
http://edc.intel.com/Software/Downloads/IEGD/

Check out the documentation listed in the column on the right such as:
"Intel(r) Embedded Graphics Drivers, EFI Video Driver, and Video BIOS User's 
Guide"

I actually don't know that

since AFAICT iegd doesn't use KMS, and it's not running in a framebuffer, there 
is
no way to paint a nice boot splash screen.
